This is a artefact design I undertook to stretch myself during my personal identity through portfolio development module.
Project Description:
This project I was to update a portfolio piece, however, being interested in creating a new showreel for the new year. I requested permission to undertake a new project instead. This project was to be a redesign of Giganto the first boss from Sonic Frontiers (2022).
The reason for this choice is that is allowed me to improve three areas from my previous showreel. These area's being monsters, robots and weapons. The clip I was aiming to do a better job than was a gears of war clip that was the last minute of my sound design one module.
That clip faced criticism for the lack of sonic interest or limited range of sounds produced. This was unacceptable to me so I wished to avoid this redesign being described as such.
I recorded all the sounds for this project myself at home.
Technical Description:
This project was developed in Reaper the industry standard daw, it was my first project in the digital audio workstation. This meant learning how standard sound design tool were implemented within Reaper. I utilised the synth Pendulate by Newfangled Audio for several sounds such as the UI and lasers. This is a free synth with lots of presets that is easy to learn.
I also used two new microphones for this project. A EM (or EMF) microphone to. capture digital noise sounds and a contact microphone to create the electrical elements and some metallic sounds.
